Small Business takes an Approach on Healthcare

America is made up largely by small business and is represented by groups such as the National Federation of Independent Businesses ( NFIB ). With 350,000 members, the NFIB is the largest representative of small businesses. As the cost of health insurance has increased over the years, the number of small business who offers healthcare coverage has decreased. The Employee Benefit Research Institute recently estimates that 63% of all uninsured citizens work for small businesses with less than 100 employees. Today, the NFIB feels a healthcare reform is more important than ever. If America fails to make health insurance affordable for small business, than the economy and America will continue to suffer.

The presidential race has forced America to focus on a reform that will benefit the American people and economy. The healthcare reform comes at a difficult time in American history as the country is facing an impending recession. The healthcare system makes up a large percentage of our countries GDP, and the cost needs to be controlled. Both Democratic candidates focus on mandating health insurance coverage for businesses and people who can’t afford it. The Republican candidate, John McCain hopes to expand access by creating healthcare that is more affordable. The NFIB agrees with the Conservative approach to the reform. Small business health insurance needs to extend coverage to more people across the country to cover our country in this difficult time.
