The Difference between Obama and Clinton
The campaign battle between Barack Obama and Hillary Clinton is beginning to get ugly as the personal attacks against Obama continue. In a recent speech made by Clinton, she focused on what she believed to be faults in the Obama’s healthcare reform plan. Obama’s plan begins a shift toward universal healthcare by requiring all children to have health insurance. Those who cannot afford it will receive it through government programs, but his focus is clearly on guaranteeing health coverage for all children. Clinton constantly makes it a point to criticize one part of Obama’s plan. The focus of her criticism is in on the adults that are excluded from his plan. She claims that her plan will mandate everyone to purchase health insurance which will cover every American. Obama’s plan excludes 50 million Americans.
In theory, universal health insurance is a great idea. Health insurance for every American citizen would relieve a lot of financial problems that middle and lower class American’s face. But the fact remains that it may not be as financially feasible as Clinton will lead you to believe. The current SCHIP is a universal healthcare plan for children. It has already given many children the ability to obtain healthcare but many states are going over their budget and it has become very costly. The campaign promises by both Democrat Presidential Candidates are just the opinions and ideas for their campaign to get elected. Our countries healthcare reform should not begin by redesigning the entire system. Our medical advances have been successful in the past and we should keep this in mind before any changes are made that would effect the system in place. Most politicians are simply interested in offering the most attractive idea to gain a vote. Whether the plan is actually feasible is a greater question.
