America’s largest private employer is providing affordable health insurance benefits to more employees than ever. After Wal-Mart researched other great American companies who offer their employees affordable health insurance packages, Wal-Mart took the initiative to develop customizable plans for the employees. Employees now have the ability to adjust the premiums and deductibles to create an affordable health insurance plan to meet their family’s needs. Currently, Wal-Mart has insured over 50% of their own employees through these custom plans. They have increased healthcare coverage by about 5% for their own employees. While Wal-Mart employs about 1.4 million individuals, the other majority of employees receive healthcare benefits mainly from previous employees or other family members. Wal-Mart has decreased the amount of unemployed individuals to about 7%. Among those are individuals who either can’t afford it or do not wish to have health insurance. Wal-Mart expects this to shine a brighter light on their business practices with their employees but activists against Wal-Mart are relentless and scrutinize the 7% of employees who still do not possess health insurance.
