According to many doctors from Massachusetts, the healthcare reform is failing. Currently, Massachusetts has mandated that all citizens purchase health insurance otherwise they will receive a fine. The reform began in 2006 by Governor Romney, which is a similar model for his proposal for his presidential campaign. Also, Massachusetts has become a test for other states like California where a healthcare reform is being pushed. So far, many doctors have given the reform a failing grade and urge America to refrain from electing a candidate who wishes to pursue a mandate to purchase health insurance. Massachusetts is facing many problems to enforce the purchase of the insurance. The high cost prevents many from purchasing health insurance and also prohibits them from paying the fines. Fine collections are about 80% under the initial projection. Collections are significantly lower because many people refuse to pay the fine or simply cannot afford the fine. Regardless, the state has only insured 37% of the 657,000 that were previously uninsured. The number seems significantly large, especially for a new program but the about 80% of those 250,000 are enrolled in a free or reduced health insurance program. The state mandated health insurance policy is suffering significantly.
