South Dakota: Are your prescription drugs covered???

The open enrollment for Medicare Part D Prescription Drug Coverage ends on December 31, 2007. Before you change or select a new prescription drug plan, you should educate yourself of coverage options available.

Even if you already have a prescription drug plan through Medicare, you should review new plans available during each open enrolment session. You may discover a better plan to suit your needs or you may learn that your current plan is no longer the best plan for you. Each plan offers different features and each individual should take the opportunity to obtain the best plan for them.

If you have a Medicare Advantage Plan with drug coverage, you may also find changes year to year. The changes may include the drugs covered, the premium, the cost-sharing requirements, and the providers in the network. It is important to observe these changes during each enrollment session.

  • Things to ask yourself before you purchase a new prescription drug plan:
    • Are your prescriptions on the plan’s list of drugs?
    • Is your preferred pharmacy listed?
    • What are the co-payments required when filling a prescription?
    • Can you afford the premium of the plan you choose?
