A Revised SCHIP Proposal
The senate is expected to vote on October 31st on the proposal for the new State Children’s Health Insurance Plan. The new plan will cost more over the next five years than the proposal that Bush vetoed about three weeks ago. President Bush stated that the newly proposed bill also fails to put the poorest children first.
The new bill will place a cap on coverage to 300% ($61,950 in yearly earnings) of the poverty level. It would also prevent illegal immigrants from obtaining free health insurance coverage which would enable the program to better cover the children who need it.
Health insurance coverage for America’s children is necessary but the republican and democratic parties must find some common ground to meet on and pass a bill that can support the people who need it. President Bush claims that the Democratic Party is wasting valuable time by proposing plans that will not pass. I guess we're going to have to wait until the 31st to see how this pans out.

Bush is an idiot. He should stop wasting time and allow the bill to pass! These kids need health insurane! Why should the children because the parents cant afford it?!

Don't put the blame on Bush. He did not develop the bill. The democrats are taking there time in creating these bills. They are well aware of the recommendations Bush has made. But they keep creating Bills that will ultimately be vetoed. Don't blame Bush, the creators of the bills are not open to compromise.

When you allow incomes of 3 and 4 times the poverty level, these aren't poor kids any more. It's the start of socialized medicine without the national debate.

The democrats are trying to exploit tobacco by increasing cigarette taxes by 61 cents per pack! I find it humorous since the SCHIP is meant to benefit the middle and lower working class but the cigarette tax will hurt them. The democratic party loves to put a spin on their programs to make them look nice but it will essentially be paid for by the middle and lower class.

Why shouldn't we exploit them? Maybe more of them will quit!
