Q. Why Use a “Health Insurance Broker”?

A.There are number of reasons why it’s smart to seek
health insurance by going through a broker, rather than directly through an insurance company. First of all, it’s free. Since insurance companies pay their brokers to connect them with customers, brokers will not pass any costs to the customer. There is nothing to lose by choosing a health insurance plan through a broker…so what is there to gain?
Having a broker is like having someone work for you—for free. A broker will first seek to understand your specific insurance requirements and then go to work investigating plans and providers that are best for these requirements. On the other hand, when you deal directly with an insurer, they generally will only offer you one plan, which may not be best for your specific needs. In fact, some insurance policies are available only through intermediaries such as brokers. While carriers are biased towards their product, brokers are not and this is why they will find you the best possible plan for you.
So what distinguishes a good
health insurance broker? What an inferior broker will do is offer only 1 product. There is no point in going through a broker if not to be offered an array of choices. A good insurance broker will do the exact opposite and work to get you those options. Furthermore, the reality is that we manage our financial affairs more and more over the internet. A broker with a website where you can view the benefits of various plans is very helpful and the mark of a superior company.
In addition to working to provide you with
health insurance, a broker is a licensed agent with a plethora of knowledge about health insurance available to you. Whether it’s basic question or a specific scenario, a good broker can be a great resource for health insurance information.

I completely agree with this article. It is always best to have an unbiased opinion from folks who work with all companies versus one specific company.
